New Place 1

New Place 2Yes, I am still into the New York based movies, and this one suits my hunger for adventure very well. “The secret life of Walter Mitty”. I always was a dreamer and too often also stuck into the dreams, not able to get out of the comfort zone, and yes, I still am sometime. So, I love to see Walter Mitty finally taken by his own dreams and taken by them becoming true, him becoming a brave man by imagining his love singing Major Tom for him.
And now, I got new Places to find …

If Lucy fellSo many people love her, Sarah Jessica Parker, but how many of them even know this movie, I am watching right now? “If Lucy fell”
And guess, where it takes place? Yep, New York. What a great Idea, having a picnic on the Brooklyn Bridge. I should do that too, with the same view …
I love about this movie, that it is innocent in a way, I don’t really understand … and what I love the most, is the idea of finally fall in love with the woman, I already love …

A New York Map unpacked

Posted by on April 3. 2015 in new york | 0 comments

Almost three years, it was standing on the shelf now, beautiful, as it was in 2012, when I bought in on a flea market in Williamsburg. And suddenly, today i wanted to know, what the backside shows. Lets discover:

The next question was: When was this map made? There was no year written on. So, I searched the internet and found this site about Hagstrom, the manufacturer of it, and about a code, the used in the old days, to note the year, it was made in 1956.

The World in a box

Schatzkiste der WeltWell, it is supposed to be …
In this box, I got from IKEA, you find memories from Hong Kong and New York, such as Maps and Tickets, Newspapers and receipts and packages.
So this box is like a treasure chest for me. I have to admit, that I usually don’t open it very often, because immediately wanderlust comes up.
But now, as New York is waiting for me, it is easy for me, to comb through it with joy. But I found the Ticket to “Death of a Salesman”, which I saw on Broadway in 2012. The main character was performed by Philip Seymour Hoffman. I will never forget this one of a kind experience …

When Harry Met Sally… and a view

Washington Square ArchLast week, I watched (again) “When Harry met Sally…”, this wonderful movie, that for me represents my view on New York for decades, up to 2012, when I finally got there for the first time.
The first part of the movie ends with the end of their Trip from Chicago to New York, which takes place at the Washington Square Arch.
I Thought about what special picture this was, the Arch framing the twin towers, and maybe I can stand there, taking a new picture – the same frame for a different building …

1980393_10152763304994511_8260849024764112852_oIn the last years there were some Lists among us, titled “The Soundtrack of my life”, where people were telling us about special songs of their lifes and what they meant to them. For a few weeks now, I thought about these Lists, every time I was watching movies like “Frankie and Johnny” or “The fabulous Baker Boys” – and I had the feeling, that my life is so much less poetic and exciting, than the ones in these movies. So, do I even deserve something like a Soundtrack? That made me sad.
Than it occurred to me, that of course, my life isn’t something, that plays along music, well that would be weird, right? There is no song playing, when I for example realise, that the last wonderful night was meant to be the only one with the wonderful girl I’ve just met….
When I put on a record from my collections, it only reminds me of something long time ago, the time, I bought this record – about things which happened back than.
I couldn’t figure out, how escape this – until today…. I was listening to a great radio-stream which music I have never heard before – and I was working on photographs and once in a while, laying down on my sofa. Suddenly, I felt like the main character in my own movie, watching myself acting.

The first Part of getting ready

A Manual for New YorkAfter the first steps, your body might loose weight, the energy that pulled you to the earth seems to get you forward. I booked a flight and my friend in NY is looking forward to see me – after three years, which is much too loong, rigth?
Now, for me it feels almost like coming home, rather than like an adventure ahead. But, don’t worry, it will be an adventure, I’ll make sure.
After booking, I went to my bookshelf and pulled out this one, which is called “A Manual for New York”. This book doesn’t tell you, where to get a lunch under 12 Dollars, it tells you about the peaople and what they love about their city, about having a dayly life there and what it feels like.
And now my big thank you to my hero of travelling Susanne Krüger from REISEBOERSENETZ and her colleague of the Globetrotters Sheep Paul. Perfect booking!

In love with a Manhattan Story

Manhattan MovieI am sitting in the hallway with a cigarette and a beer in the light of my MacBook and when it gets too cold for me, I go back into the room and watch … Manhattan by Woody Allen. I love this movie – it is like a little case of long forgotten feelings about wanting to be somebody but loving the own doubts about deserving anything. I love being sucked into this Black and white timeless world, yes, even if I add color to it in my head, it seems to me out of any normal decade – it’s its own planet, just looking like New York, but somehow more than New York does. Although Allen is talking almost all the time without breathing, it is a quiet movie to me, and even when it’s funny, it’s sad in a jealous making way. I want to sit there with these two people at the east river, watching the sunset above the city, not talking just listening….
